Please read the solution proposed above. I, too, have Android 7.0 on my smartphone, and after installing the CA it restarted working (both app and site on browser). HTH
The app works for me now, even though I am using the ancient 5.1 Lollipop and have not manually installed any certificates.
Apparently, the Lichess administration heard our voices. Now everything works fine for me, which means that they fixed the problem. Thank you so much for such an attentive attitude!
Most old Android devices should be supported again. Happy to hear it works.

We're glad too. Let's hope this doesn't happen again.
I'm glad to read that my post at least temporarily helped some people.
I also quickly did a new test on my old android 6 tablet by removing the manually installed certificates and I can confirm that both the site and app once again work without them.
So thanks to the Lichess team for the general fix for us people with older devices!
