AI causes global warming?

"so do many other things"

  • AI data centers consume huge amounts of energy.

"we haven't arrived at 100% renewable sustainable energy yet"

  • At current demand, but even less so with data centers, electric cars, heat pumps...

Musk has an idea about putting data centers in space.

I heard Google wants to reopen the nuclear plant of Three Mile Island where in 1979 an accident occurred to power a data center.

Yes AI supports and "causes" global warming by consuming energy. But so do many other things, and only because we haven't arrived at 100% renewable sustainable energy yet.

100% renewable sustainable energy tips the balance the other way and is just as disastrous as global warming , do gooders one day will be saying , start up the coal mines!! what we have to understand is , we as human beings as carbon dioxide producers are part of the perpetual motion weather system if you don't produce carbon dioxide the trees won't breath , it's all about balance , I reckon 2025 was pretty much balanced ,co2 hydrogen , h2o oxygen, if the do gooders carry on without taking into consideration , balance, we'll be f****d in the opposite direction xxx

Actually, if ai causes global warming, its because of us humans. We made AI. And plus, AI does not cause global warming, its just the planet itself! But, humans do cause pollution which may sometimes impact the temperature. So, it safe to say that AI do not cause global warming, its just the planet, but humans contribute in just 1%... Just that 1% could change to 100%. So keep our planet safe humans! But hey! I'm not 100% correct and no one is 100% correct so just keep the planet safe rather than other things.

I'm not just sitting here worrying about the massive need for electricity that can result from AI. I'm thinking about how I might help to deal with any resulting need for massive new power generation.

Admittedly, it presents a real challenge.

But how about this: aren't there some concerned states or cities that might provide grants to help us plant millions of currant (sic) bushes?

this could be a good debate resolution

Sadly that isn’t how it works. Old carbon dioxide from long ago, perhaps in the age of the dinosaurs or even beyond that, is released when you burn coal. That creates extra carbon dioxide and trashes the environment, because right now, we’re not in any state to handle all that carbon dioxide. The environment has changed since.

Now, when you use renewable energy, you either do not produce carbon dioxide, or you produce fresh carbon dioxide. For the latter, imagine you start a renewable biofuel plant. The biofuel burns and produces CO2. Then when the new biofuel-producing plants grow, they absorb the CO2 that was just released, before they are burned again. Nothing new is added.
