For me, it's easier to think in 3-d, there's no glare off the monitor, and it's nice to interact with some of the people. The "bad" part of OTB is the waiting. Especially in the first round, I'm waiting for hours for others to finish their games, which can become quite boring. Even walking around a different city on a Saturday morning becomes redundant after a couple of tournaments.
Online has nothing on OTB, in any context, the pressure of being on 4/4 before the last round is by far the most tense I've ever felt (first time I experienced it). Atmosphere OTB is obviously far superior to online because online has no atmostphere. Also the games are much longer and deeper and playing well in an OTB brightens your week although losses are crushing.
I've never experienced what @jonesmh When my game is decided early (which is not very common) I have no problem with going to get lunch or looking around the local area.
I've tried OTB and it's hard for me to see which piece is attacking which. Also the pieces fall over or aren't at the center of the square, which is annoying.
Personally, I prefer OTB. I like playing against a real human in person — it gives a different sensation than playing online which is usually limited in how you can engage your opponent (e.g. chat). However, online has offered me the opportunity to play against friends and family who are in a different location geographically.
