2021 RK1440 OC Pairings Announcement

To start off, we have two sections in the tournament, a single-elimination for the first two rounds and a double-elimination from the quarter-finals and forward. For all rounds except the final, the standard for the matches are a 6-game series (with two games per position). So here's the process of playing your match. First you will contact the player you are paired with for the round and determine a match-time that will work for both of you. Post your match-time with your opponent here: https://lichess.org/forum/team-lovers_of_rk/2021-rk1440-oc-match-time-announcement (only you or your opponent should post the match-time). After that, determine who will send the challenge out and who will accept the challenge (since there are no private challenges on CVT and only lobby challenges). For the person sending out the challenge, make sure you select the following options in the lobby challenge:

Initial Time: 3 minutes

Increment : 2 seconds

Variant: Racing Kings 1440

Select Position From Numbers and type the correct position in both boxes. Any games played out of order or in the wrong boxes will be voided.

From there, it doesn't matter who gets white or black. There is no initial countdown for the first move so look in the top right corner to see who is going first and respectfully play your move in a fair amount of time. After the first game ends rematch in the same position, it will automatically switch your colors. After the second game ends for the position, tally up the score. (If you had the better score at the end of the pair, you get 1 point for the series. If you and your opponent were tied in that pair, you get .5 points for the series and your opponent get .5 points. If your opponent the better score at the end of the pair, you get 0 points and your opponent gets 1 point). Repeat the lobby challenge process for the 2nd position listed, then the third.

At the end of the third position pair of games (the sixth game played), add up the points. If there is someone who has more points (2-1, 2.5-.5, 3-0) then the player with more points wins and the match ends. Note that if one player wins the first two positions, the series can end early since one player has already reached enough points to win. If the series is tied (1.5-1.5) then the series will go into tie-breakers.

Tie-breakers work like this: the first position drawn in used for all tie-breakers. You will still need to send a new lobby challenge out after the second game (since CVT will give a brand new position after the second game). After the pair of games, if someone had a better score for the pair of games, they win. If not, another pair of games is played.

If you're opponent is not responding, I have already known about it and messaged them. So far only one pairing has unknown communication meaning both players will be eliminated. Otherwise, all the other pairings have a person that has clearly communicated better. Schedule your matches or someone will get a free win!

Second round pairings (remember positions will be given 5-25 minutes before match start to limit preparation. The positions given are within +1.0 since this is the hardest round of the tournament. We are seeing some of the closest matches between opponents that both deserve to be in the top 8 but one has to be eliminated without a second chance.) :
