Black builds on the Kan setup with ...e6 and ...a6, placing both pawns on light squares while using the pieces to control the dark squares.

After 6. Bc4, Black may delay castling and expand on the queenside with ...b5 and ...Bb7.

Alternatively, Black can enter the Paulsen Formation with 6...Nc6.
