  1. Be3 in those Scandi games looks a bit off to me. I think white is better off quickly developing the kingside with Nf3 and Bc4.

As someone who also struggled against the Valencian for some time, what I found most enjoyable was actually delaying the move d4 entirely and prioritizing Nf3 and Bc4. Then, if black is not careful, they will invite tactics with Ne5 and Nf7.

For example 4. Nf3 Bf5 5. Bc4 Nf6?! 6. Ne5! e6 7. Qf3 c6? 8. Nxf7!

In such lines you will almost certainly be able to play d4 later anyway.

I forgot my prep, i was scared of last time when i hadn't prepped and when i played Nf3 and my opponent played Bg4 and i didn't realize that h3 worked for some reason and i forgot again so i got scared and played Be3 instead, not good, but at least something to learn from.
