1000 rated player does not need even tactics let alone positional skill. He need to learn not to give free pieces to opponents. There is urgency on skill needed. In any art there is . In chess having extra rook tends win more often than center dominating knight. But the actual topic I do agree that true mastery comes from hunger of being better regardless of level.
