I hope someday you or some other group do what the URS team was offering to do (manage ratings so players don't need USCF anymore).
Links in the article don't work.
This is a great idea, and I hope it takes off! Also, snowbird122 is right that links don't work.
One thing that might be useful, is if you showed the chess friendly locations without the need to log in. Users could potentially be attracted by seeing before registering that there are spots in locations they visit. I get that you may not want to show the exact locations, since that might lead to potential users bypassing by finding a spot on your map, then setting up a meeting via other channels. But showing a map that at least indicates what cities and towns may have good spots within reasonable travel distance might be useful.
You should make a YouTube video for interested potential users. On the homepage, there is no tutorial or sneak peek. Users now have to register for an unknown product/service. You will get a lot of people who just won't make an account when landing on the homepage...
is it open source?
It looks like you have to enable geolocation to use the map or to find matches. Because I can read a map and zoom in to my town without any assistance I can't see why geolocation should be obligatory. So unfortunately I won't use this service even if it sounds promising.
Keep me updated on this. I'd like to be notified through lichens when it becomes available
