It is 'modern' in the internet age to think of pauses in life as 'wasted time'. Therefore one always looks for ways to 'optimize' time usage. This is perhaps born of the adage "time is money".

Here are some reasons why its ok to wait between games.

  1. You have time to discuss & analyse the game with your opponent before the next round
  2. You have time to get to know your opponent and discuss any number of other things (chess is social!)
  3. You have time to look at other games.
  4. You have time to calm down after a loss, understand your errors and avoid tilt in the next game.
  5. You have time to go the bathroom, get a coffee etc.

This 'pausing time' is in my opinion important for both mental and social reasons and not wasted at all.
