Game of the Week 7/52

ChessAnalysisPuzzleOver the boardTournament
Welcome to a new Game of the Week. Last week, unfortunately, there wasn’t much to choose from - there weren’t many particularly exciting games with fireworks, so to speak. One interesting encounter was the match in Ankara between the talented Ediz Gurel and Jorden Van Foreest, which was enjoyable overall, but honestly, no single game really captured the “Game of the Week” spirit. In the end, I’ve chosen the game between the young International Master Liu and Grandmaster Dudin. It offers a rich and complex battle in the Najdorf Sicilian, constantly shifting between static and dynamic factors, making it far from easy to analyze. Take a look for yourself!

If you’re here to sharpen your skills and really work on your chess, try solving the next 5 positions before diving into the analysis. But if you’re just here for fun and want to enjoy the game, feel free to scroll straight to the full breakdown. Have fun!

liu exercise1.jpgBLACK TO MOVE. Consider the following four moves: A) Qc7, B) a5, C) b5, D) Nb6. Which one would you choose and why? Try to evaluate each move accurately.
liu exercise2.jpgBLACK TO MOVE. Would it be beneficial for Black to trade queens in this position?
liu exercise3.jpgBLACK TO MOVE. How would you evalute Nd7 move? Can Black go for it?
liue exercise4.jpgWHITE TO MOVE. Black’s last move was h3, aiming to disrupt the pawn structure or to fight for the g2 square. How should White respond?

The game was played in round 6 of 17th Southwest Class Championship, 15. 2. 2026
between IM Liu (2404) and GM Gleb (2596)
