Correspondence games. Why was I so afraid of them?

You were able to find people willing to play?

Also, players who wait for the time to run out, I think they tend to do that in the classical time control as well. I did had one such opponent, where I was winning (for the first time on this site, no less!) And the other person didn't make a move for the rest of their turn, perhaps hoping that I would resign. They played 2 Knights Defense, and I tore it apart.

But I would love to play correspondence. It sounds right up my alley.

Well, went to the lobby and accepted everything in 1-day from the Correspondence tab.

And then is the Ladders

"thinking for a minute or two and making the move"

  • That is not correspondence. That is 30+20 in disguise.

You can find players on home page who are searching for an opponent in correspondence games.
Correspondence games are especially practical for chess enthusiast with responsibilities in real life or for begginers.

If you are interested in correspondence games there are tournaments on Lichess with game per each month https://lichess.org/team/correspondence-league

My surprise was that people were willing to play that time control, given how I am bombarded with the statement "Bullet and Blitz are the only time control people play." Even though I consistently find classical players. I suppose chess content makers distort this perception.

I am happy to be corrected. Since there are players, I will definitely play correspondence more often now.
