"Study your endgames."
This is the moral of the story. It's not just slightly better positions that are ground out in your examples, but rather slightly better endgames. Sure, it makes perfect sense to test your opponent in whether they have a feel for the pieces, the position, or simply have theoretical positions memorized. I myself won two over-the-board R+B vs R endings (no pawns), which imo is a classic example of grinding it out. Does opp know the defensive strat? Maybe not... let's see :3
