How I Reached 2300 FIDE Using the Catalan Opening

Really interesting article from you! I also discovered the Catalan Opening for myself recently, about a year ago! And just like you, I am very interested in statistics, and I have deeply analyzed many opening positions, but all of them from White's side in the Catalan and from Black's side in the Modern Defense, or to be more precise, usually the Norwegian Variation; as I focus solely on these two openings and continuously optimize them. I also participated in your survey. I train my own opening repertoire using custom studies I’ve created on Lichess. The fruits of this work will really start to show in the coming months. As I can see, you've managed to break 2300 FIDE Elo, which is also my goal, and I believe that with my strategy, I can achieve it as well. Your articles are interesting, and that's why I’m now following your posts! I’m currently replaying your first Catalan game and noticed that the variation you play is exactly the same as the one in my opening repertoire!

Above all, I focus on the win rate/probability against strong players when optimizing my opening repertoire. For example, the Norwegian Variation is objectively incorrect, in some positions Stockfish shows -1.5, so what? What good are 1.5 pawn units of advantage if a human generally can’t convert it? Exactly, not much. That’s why I focus much more on the win rate of the variations rather than their objective evaluation, as long as the objective evaluation doesn’t get completely out of hand. That’s my strategy, what do you think?
