The Most Embarassing Loss Of My Life

Pretty sure I covered the position after 4.Bh4 recently, I believe I gave 4...e6 with the point that 5.e4?! fails to 5...g5, so White ends up with a rather tepid setup after 5.e3 c5 (no more Nb5).

Congrats btw!

I think 4...e6 was what I found to be the best try (couple months before the game, obviously forgetting it), but I'm not a fan of 5.e3 c5 6.dxc5 and white gets the Janoswki-Larsen variation with colors reversed. I used to play that line with Black in QGA with crazy good results, similar to my openings with White! So I don't want to play against that.

I'm really liking the look of 3...g6, if white goes long you get a better pirc, you can choose to play c5 or c6-b5, I think it's a nice way to get a non-standard combative position, especially since I stopped playing 1...d5, just not a fan of these QG games

I visited Lyon for a week, got paired up in a 7+3 blitz tournament against 3 time French Champion Christian Bauer in the first round as a FIDE ~1600, and suffered an embarrassing loss in the Caro-Kann ending with a queen chase...
Needless to say, it didn't even account for a learning experience

I've had far more embarrassing losses, but I'm too much of a noob to know I should be ashamed.

Used to be 1800 otb years ago.. Then I had a health problem (insomnia, anxiety). Quit for years until Covid hit. Got back into the game out of boredom and discovered all my skills had vanished. Pattern recognition, memory, strategy. Still looking for answers at ~1000 rating. Even with practice. 7. Nc6 Nb5 is a microcosm of what I do in my games. :-(
