I love the youtube quality thumbnail.
One of the worst distractions for me are these articles showing up on the front page, despite enjoying many of them. Sometimes I just wanna turn my brain off and play chess and not read anything. I really can't explain why but they always throw me off my game for several minutes by getting me thinking about something else just from the headline
i beginning to think OTB is something ancient, these days players can play on computers..
in the following video you will see players are completely protected from distraction, they wear Headset, they see only computerised board...

yess a fm was couhing against me and i lost at the start!!
must win. life income analogy. Chess as a means to earn a living. This seems to possibly be the basis of the damocles stress.
If not llfe income, then it might be self-priming to consider it such. Maybe chess becomes an non healthy world at that level, in all cases.
To the point of individual circumstances of opponent not being able to be tolerated, as we well know that "hell is others".
being forced for hours to deal with the others, we social animals for who(m?) normally, all body language is meant to be important signals, that in some context need to be denied. This is torture, of psychological nature. The opposite of solitary confinement.
confinement with another, with the premise of hostility spilling outside the board.
I empathize with both chess players having to deny their biology if wanting to simulate the prefect chess concentrating environment for each other and this does confirm I do not want to let myself approach such a world. even if I were competent.
perahs OTB (outside The board competition) should emulate online chess in physical settings.. no open top and side cubicules, no cameras. no audience. closed rooms (with decent AC air and visual confort... or playing via closed loop digital chess.
But i am glad to have read such sharing of the mindset that can be induced by such activity. I would assume the author not being an exception, just one able to express and share such concerns well, and courageous enough to share.
So @Durarbayli what do you propose people should do?
I remember how one of my opponents was itching the whole game, it was obviously OCR or something like that, so I couldn't just tell him not to do that. I blundered horribly on like move 15.
Not to mention hyperactive kids that kick you under the table while crashing you in the opening lol

okay for ones who down thumbed this piece, how about a heart monitor being plugged for both players.. it could compensate the body language that happens in OTB xd
I still don't believe what you have done was ethic. There is no way to stop someone from coughing if they're really sick and i guess you wanted a free point because your opponent was coughing. Prove me wrong.
