Learning Openings the Smart Way: Principles Over Memorization

When I first learned about openings, I tried to memorize a few of them here and there. I haven't broken all of my bad chess habits, but I am much more likely to play from general principles when I can't remember the next move. However, I try not to follow the principles in a blind manner. Sometimes, for instance, it can be more beneficial to develop a bishop earlier than a knight.

Thanks for posting this. I look forward to your next lesson. :)
