@tpr I'm not sure if it was because he didn't want to disturb his opponent or because of his severe social anxiety. But yes, I've heard that anecdote as well.

I find it sad that he got a mental illness at the end of his chess career. I also find it sad how even though he was one of the greatest chess masters of the time, his family still faced financial issues unlike the grandmasters of today like Magnus Carlson who has a net worth of 25+ million.
