He himself used to correct that to Alékhine.
He held a doctorate in law and was addressed as Dr. Alékhine.
He was married to an elder, but rich woman, which allowed him to play chess full time.
He was an officer in the Imperial Russian Army, but was detained after the Revolution and in 1921 fled from Russia to France and became a French citizen.
During the Second World War he played tournaments in Nazi-Germany occupied territory and he wrote some antisemitic texts.
He died in Estoril, Portugal in sinister circumastances.
