Lichess is an amazing free website with lots of features. Compared to other websites, Lichess is a haven for people that don't want to commit too much money into chess just yet. While websites like the famous chess.com operate on ads and memberships, Lichess is extremely unique.

Winstreaks

Let's start by laying out the base idea of this concept. A win streak would mean when a player wins 2 or more games in a row.

What I think should be implemented into the Lichess rating system is when a player wins two games in a row, he gets an extra rating point. Three games in a row, two extra rating points, four games in a row, three extra rating points. And so on...

Some tweaks to avoid easy rating climb and frustration...

• If you play someone more than 200 points lower than you, and win, you do not gain extra rating, and your win streak does NOT go up.
• If you play someone more than 300 points higher than you, and lose, your win streak is SAVED, but you do not gain extra rating, and your win streak does NOT go up.
• If you play someone and draw, your win streak is SAVED, but you do not gain extra rating, and your winstreak does NOT go up.
• To balance the rating gain feature, if you LOSE two or more games in a row, you lose a max of 3 extra rating per lost game. So, a 10 game losestreak would still be only -3 on top of the amount of rating you lost. But, a 2 game lose streak would be -1 on top of the rating you lost.

Summarizing the information above, your win streak does not change when playing people too high, too low rated, or drawing. Finally, there is a very small lose streak to balance the amazing win streak feature.

As a blogger, I read other blogs. I know that Lichess can't take too many suggestions, as it is like a plane. However, I suggest Lichess strongly consider this feature.

Not only would this motivate others to play more games, but it would also make the experience on this website fun and unique.

Some optional winstreak rules lichess may want to consider;

• Ratings above 2300 do not get affected by win streaks or lose streaks
• Stop playing games on Lichess for more than a few weeks and your win streak resets
• Winstreaks cannot be built up or used in casual games. Neither can lose streaks.
• Does not apply to lower time controls like bullet or ultrabullet
