One more light goes out
After our recent loss, we are all poorer for a treasure... so this is a humble but sincere attempt to honor our beloved friend, Daniel Naroditsky...All of his achievements speak loudly enough, but I felt the need to add a quiet tone, just a tiny sound to it by writing him a song... and I hope it matters somewhere out there, even though no words could ever mend our souls...
Feel free to come up with a fitting title, as I decided to leave it unnamed for now. I'm glad if you find it worthy of any attention, hopefully it's up to the task of paying tribute to such a massive figure as Danya was.
The poem:
Like a soldier fallen in an unfair fight,
his premature departure woke us to the truth
that real-life heroes are no superhuman,
many of them leave us in the prime of youth.
Their deeds live forever, but they indeed do not,
as they still may bleed and they still feel harm;
their actions are immortal, but they themselves are not,
as they still get hurt and they still can die.
Underestimated, like the Tesla of chess,
such a gifted genius - truly one of a kind,
with utmost patience explaining his thought process,
just to let us glimpse into his mastermind.
Though little did he know what he was up against
was a soulless evil with no holding back,
false accusations against any common sense,
so what more to happen to draw some regret?
Crossing all the lines just to win the war,
whether or not it sould be won at all;
crossing all the bounds just to prove a point
by none other than the one he admired the most.
So he's fallen victim to the immense pressure,
as even the strongest can only take so much;
been fighting like a lion to his final exhale,
lived a legend and will always be recalled as such.
For fragile is a heart that's so full of love,
yet what a life had it beaten out!
Since this one of ours proves itself so short,
it's comforting to know - we shall shortly re-unite.
Much like many greats
Danya's personality was such a vast and rich spectrum of features, with many layers to it.
It's what has always made him so special to stand out amongst all the others, not only within the chess world, but as a person in general. Almost like he chose (or has been chosen) to possess a single virtue of those the best in certain areas of life; either of the ones surrounding him, who own different skills, or perhaps some giants the history will never forget.
William Shakespeare, the greatest writer in the English language
Nikola Tesla, Serbian physicist, futurist, inventor. One of the most brilliant minds science has ever seen
Chester Bennington, the frontman of Linkin Park, during one of his last live performances before his tragic death in 2017.
These are the big three I chose to compare Daniel to - each from different eras and each the best at what they did. ( just my opinion of course)
Daniel has had a bit from all of them: Shakespeare's beauty of expression and playfulness with words, Tesla's ingenious mind and foresight of a prophet , and finally, Chester's compassion and devotion. In the end, they shared somewhat the same fate...
Though while you may have left us, you'll live on in our memory for good. We pray to God you find the right place, as it's all we can do. And that's all I have to say.
