Storefjell Day 0 - The Arrival

TournamentOff topicOver the board
The largest event in Norway for mere mortal club players is about to begin, but the Elites already play their first games today.

How Did We Get Here?

On top of many hills there is a place called Gol. If you travel further up, you will find yourself on dirt roads. To get to the hotel you have to avoid dangers like other cars and sudden cyclists seemingly teleporting from nowhere. If you don't own a car, you will be in trouble. The distances are vaster than most places in the southern parts, and the buses have to be coordinated case by case. As for the cost of the trip, it would probably be cheaper to travel to a more centralized place, like Tromsø or even Hammerfest, but here we are, in the middle of nowhere having fun doing what we love.

At the Hotel

Relax, this is not a review thing unless it is about my poor chess skills. We will get to see examples of this after the games have started. If I keep my promises to post my games, that is.

Arriving at the reception aeria, we had to face the mandatory not being sure if I know people and greeting with a gentle (hopefully polite) nod, hoping not to be perceived as anything other than a normal human being. Luckily the organizers seem welcoming, contact seeking and informative. In other words less to worry about for mere mortals like me.

The Eating of the Food

As usual I messed up stuff at the buffét. Like not knowing you don't need to bring anything else than the food and the plate it is on. We chose to sit at the round table with many seats, alone, cause when fewer known people show up closer to Oslo than Trondheim, only the strangers are left. Not counting the famous TV personalities, cause they have no reason to remember the three seconds we were within eye contact reach last time (probably also not making eye contact).

Out of courtesy to the other guests, there are no pictures of the food, but I can assure you it was super traditional. The type of food you will fall asleep from if you eat too much of it.

What Happens Next?

For now I will attend the welcome blitz tournament. Tomorrow I will play the first game of the SjakkNM that lichess will cover some of the games from Round 1
In the meantime you can follow the Elites Round 1

I will now also post the board where Jon Ludvig Hammer is playing, just for fun.
