What Are Chess Tournaments

Chess tournaments are places where you can play other people and points to get a prize. There are usually 3 prizes. One for 1st place, one for 2nd place, and one for 3rd place. You can earn points by winning or drawing games. For wins you get 1 point and for draws you get 1/2 a point.

Rated and Non-Rated

Tournaments can be rated or non-rated. Rated tournaments and tournaments where if you win games you get rating points and if you lose games you lose rating points. Non-rated tournaments are where whatever your game results in it will not effect your rating.
