Thank you for your article on Curacao 1962. There is a lot that could be said on this subject, but I would like to limit myself to one point here. Maybe this has already been mentioned here, in which case please just ignore it. You wrote „likely refused to collude with the other Soviet players“. Korchnoi has mentioned in interviews (e.g., „The day Kasparov quit“, New in chess 2006, pp. 238 ff.) that he was surprised when he learned about it after some rounds and that it was a plot not only against Fischer but also against himself (and Tal, by the way). Since Petrosian and Geller would have been friends, it would have been better for Keres to make a different pact, according to Korchnoi. He doesn’t say with whom, but it’s clear that he means himself. So he wasn’t averse to a pact in general, and to one with one of his Soviet colleagues in particular. Thanks again for your insights on Curacao 62.
