You said that pawns/pieces are weaknesses if they are attacked more times than they are defended, but this doesn't hold true for pawns in particular. Because if a pawn is part of a pawn chain (and not the base) it must be defended by another pawn, and therefore the only piece that can take it without losing material is another pawn, so it isn't really a weakness. Normally a pawn weakness would be doubled, backwards or isolated pawns, or those at the supporting end of a pawn chain, where they aren't defended and are loose and generally hard to defend.

Weaknesses already exist when the number of attacks and defenses is the same. Pawn defense seems more stable than piece defense. But even in such a scenario, the consequences of capture must be considered. Weaknesses are a natural part of every game. Not all of them can be exploited. But we must pay attention to all of them to avoid exploitation.

I've been playing chess for almost 50 years and have a completely different perspective. Algorithms make it easier to find a good move in most positions, especially when we don't know what to play. Once we learn them, we'll do certain things automatically. Out of curiosity, how long have you been playing? What's your rating in the practical game?

My rating is just above 2k fide

My ranking is 2378. I hold IM and IA degrees. I have been training others for over 40 years. My protagonist personality compels me to seek new paths. I write books for those interested in these new paths.
