How often to rinse and repeat that procedure? would that work daily for a lifetime? What is painful? Is the goal worth that pain?
I liked the dentist gif. It does not look painful there.
Interesting article for sure - thought provoking.
But I am a lazy person and always have been, and hence will always be a lowly CM - however I do like my working week and my online bullet chess. In fact, I believe I have won the daily bullet on this site more than anyone else so far - and each time it has been a thrill. I think bullet chess is so relaxing and fun and adds to the quality of life. Many people with normal jobs outside of chess will surely love the speed and thrill of relaxing bullet and blitz chess in the evening.
Also, I want to know my chess intuition is strong at the faster time controls and actually, this goes way back culturally to the Russians assuming Fischer was more of a calculating robot at longer time controls - and would be useless at blitz. Please refer to the 1970 Herceg Novi Blitz World blitz championship. Fischer won that. See tournament details here:

IT environments can be particularly stressful for programmers, etc. For me ideally, "effectiveness" will mean fewer hours a week working. By nature I am super lazy, and do not like work environments that generally encourage burn-out and stress.
Here is a great video for anyone wanting to "scale themselves up" by a top Microsoft executive:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS1mnISoG7U
I really do recommend this to everyone wanting to get more out of less time - i.e. "effectiveness"
He did a newer version of this video here:

I hope this video helps to kind of explain more about "effectiveness" and as a way of getting a better work-life balance. In my opinion, these are very helpful videos.
Cheers, K

This really sounds like an American point of view. I fear that late capitalism culture compells people to overwork, leading to burnouts - and the US are the country where this culture can be found more.
When I read the beginning "I was working 8AM - 9PM six days a week", I hoped that the article would continue saying that this is too much. To my dismay, it didn't - it actually stated that this ISN'T ENOUGH. Lads, my 50 cent on this (and any) topic is: enjoy life, enjoy little things, don't work too much and don't overstress yourself. You will improve if you put passion into what you do, but don't push your body to its limits and more importantly - save time to rest, be lazy. Your aim should be being the best version of yourself, not the best among others.
Agree, so much. OP- I know lots of people who have worked themselves so hard like this. It makes them miserable as the years pass by, especially when they aren't doing something they see as valuable work, something helping society. Your work will end up taking all your time from you and will magically create more work for you. Sometimes you need to grind to make some money, sure, and sometimes you have a wild passion project that you want dump everything into because it feels right, sure. But just think about your situation for your own sake and ask yourself if you are stuck on a bad path.

Yet here is some goofy goober with weird dialects who assails others.
Go do something better with your life. Honestly, though, I believe the article was morally correct.
And, here is a thought:
delete your post, as it is more bullshit and annoying than his.
