Can I ask you something?
Are you a woman? Even if you aren't, have you ever experienced gender-based harassment or violence?
If not, I can understand more why you can't differentiate between bullying and this.
As @greenteakitten said, the reason for sexual harassment of women is very much because they are women, the clue is in the name.
Bullying is of course also wrong for whatever reason, but is a separate topic in this context.
I was talking about sexism. If someone said during the game : you suck at chess cause you're a woman, that's not because he/she hates women. That's because he/she is a bully and will always find the reason why you suck. It can be gender, nationality or race.

@NeverNothing
I've never heard anyone say someone was bad at chess because they were (race or ethinicity), or poor, or had (physical feature) that would impair them from playing chess.
I'm sure some really small minority might actually hold views like this, but the majority only single out women - So how is this not sexism?

If a bully encounters a woman he is gonna say something sexist, if he plays vs a person from a different race he is gonna be racist. The point is that the problem is not l sexism but toxic people in general. Some people are just more loud about their experiences with toxicity than the other groups

What's your source for claiming this? Bullies have targets, usually they don't bully everyone. Not all people have the same probability of being targets. Ergo, here comes other factors like racism, ethnicity, sexism, etc. These are correlated, but a correlation is not causation too, and does not cover every case.

Everyone should be allowed to play chess Including Women. I am a Male teen and I have played Girls/Women and I am happy because they get to do something they like and they are allowed by their rights to have fun in life and not be forced to do what their husband tells them too.
PS: Great Blog Post. I Think I read about Garry kasparov 'Forgive me if I am wrong' He said Women should stay home and do their duties. I smiled when I ran out of the event when A women beat him at chess.

Thank you, Wildwizard for your support.
I believe Kasparov has changed his stance about women chess players somewhat since he was beaten by Judit Polgar.
He said:
“There can be no finer example of the inspiring powers of competition to shatter the status quo than Hungary’s Judit Polgar.”
he also said:
“By seeking out and often besting the toughest competition,” he wrote, “the Polgars showed that there are no inherent limitations to their aptitude – an idea that many male players refused to accept until they had unceremoniously been crushed by a twelve-year-old with a ponytail.”
