Hello, I'm new to chess. I'm diligently working my way through the Lichess practice exercises. I'm on "checkmate patterns III, epaulette mate 2". This is a checkmate I cannot for the life of me understand.
Please could a higher elo player explain why White's bishop on f7 doesn’t take black's rook when it moves to g8 and checks the king. According to the solution it only blocks the rook by moving to g6. I attach a screenshot of the starting position.
