Colle system. Attack on white fields.

"the point of the Colle System"

  • The main point of the original Colle system is to prepare e4, hence Bd3, Nbd2, Re1

But e3 is useful in the pawn structure. And if black ever plan to build a pawn wave, the d4 pawn can soon be isolated. While you can put a knight on e5 for a more powerful center. In my tatse, e4 is not very interesting because of a potential dxe4, and pushing the pawn to e5 is close of some French defense pawn structure.

"9. 0-0 allow white to capture a pawn on c6"

  • Black is fine after that, he get the bishop's pair and Bc1 is undeveloped.

Bc1 is undeveloped but Be7 is undeveloped too!

"e4 is not very interesting"

  • That was the idea of Edgard Colle.

He played e4 to get through more open positions. In most of his games, Black played rarely the light square bishop far, (1926 Grunfeld) and privileged fast castling with fianchetto (Grunfel again, 1929).
