For the life of me I can't understand why this would be the best move

Hi there ! First time posting here but love the Lichess community as far as I have seen :)

Here is a game that I played today :

My question is about this position after move 15. ... - Qc+5

Computer says that Kh1 is a blunder and that the better move is Be3. But then there is just QxBe3+ to Kh1 and you just get the same position as with my move but without your bishop ?? I must be missing something

I checked some more variations further with the engine and it seems to want to attack the still-centered black king with rook/queen on the c file so I guess the aim of the initial Be3 is the deflection of the black Queen, but I really struggle to admit that its enough compensation for white and that that attack would not be possible without sacrificing a whgole bishop.

Thanks for your help !!

I haven't looked at the engine analysis yet, but maybe the bishop deflects the queen from the defense of the knight then both a rook and knight are hanging leading to a better position? If they save the knight, you are up an exchange and if they save the rook then you take the knight and the position is maybe better for you? So its not a bishop sac but just a trade I think

Perhaps the best thing would be for you to ask yourself what specific effective move renestam would have been able to choose after 16 Be3 Qxe3+ 17 Kh1.

Be3 is a phenomenal move. Impressive!!

Be3 lures the black queen away from the defense of Nc6.

Yeah, the point is that if 16 Kh1 Rb8 and Black is able to protect everything. But after 16 Be3 Qxe3+ 17 Kh1 White is attacking two pieces, and if say 17... Rd8 18 Qxc6+ Rd7 19 Rac1 Black's king remains stuck in the center.

It's not often you see a position where putting a piece en prise to be taken with check is the best move. Nice find in the computer analysis.
