Not a Puzzle: What Would You Play in These 8 Positions?

Bxf6, Bxf6 and Nd1 or Nd1 straight away. Also may i ask why you are doing this ?

I’m just curious to see whether a group of chess players of all skill levels can make a better decision than a single expert, and whether the group can sometimes be wrong as a whole.

2nd position: Nd1 (aiming to go Ne3 and eventually f4).

Second position: e5

Second position: e5

Hi everyone,

For this experiment I would prefer everyone to make their move independently, without seeing other players’ reasoning beforehand, because comments could influence subsequent choices.

So for now, please post only your move. If possible, you can delete the comments and repost just the move. I would definitely be interested ...

Here’s my thought process:

Bxf6 just looks wrong.

Nd1 and Nce2 are okay moves, but they are unnecessarily passive.

But e5 just looks very aggresive.

After further checking the position, I decided to choose e5 as my move since I prefer being aggressive to being passive.

If the pawn captures my precious knight, I’d capture their knight on f6 with my pawn back.

Plus, despite losing a pawn, e5 managed to double up Black’s b-pawn and c-pawn.

I’d change my answer to e5.

Hi Toscani,

I’m also collecting votes from another platform and from a chess forum. For the latter, though, I don’t have the players’ ratings.

Maybe you can move this thread to the General Chess Discussion? There are usually more people there than in here.
