Queen's Gambit Accepted 3.Nc3? a6!

It seems that this opening has been studied for a long time. The theory says that:

  • Nc3 This move looks misguided, as d4 and e5 are not controlled, and the knight is vulnerable to a ...b5 advance.

Master statistics confirm this:
Nf3=13k games, e4=6.2k, e3=5k, Nc3=391 games. 391 only!

But.
If you look at the lichess players’ statistics, it will be quite the opposite! The bad move turns out to be the most popular!
Nc3=25mln games!!! e3=18mln, e4=16mln, Nf3=6.4mln, Qa4=1.7mln
In the site’s database of openings, this move was made in 37% of games. This means that your opponents will very often go for this bad option. I suggest newbies study this in advance to win.

White opens Bishop and attacks the pawn. e4.
But Black manages to defend the pawn, since he had an extra move. ...b5
White wants to destroy the pawn chain. a4.

Now Black has two good moves on the engine.
Or drive the knight away with b4.
Or Bb7 capture a large diagnoal after several exchanges of pieces.
I suggest explore these branches. Thank you.

The line, 1 d4 d5 2 c4 dxc4 3 Nc3 a6 4 e4 b5 5 a4 b4, seems to rely on 2 nonoptimal white moves (3 Nc3 and 4 e4) in order to reach an ~0.2 advantage for Black.

You exaggerate a bit

You have a distorted idea of newcomers. I am writing for beginners. Player 2500 is not a beginner. Do not send the game of professionals here. I do not understand you at all. I urge people to have learned to win for black. You come, you say that it is not, and show the game where the blacks won. It's so!

The line

Do not answer in my topics. You are not a chess player. The topic is devoted to the analysis of games, you have no games.

"You have a distorted idea of newcomers."

  • No, I was a newcomer too.

"I urge people to have learned to win for black."

  • 3 Nc3 is OK, and deserves no ? as it is no mistake.
    In the game shown 18 Bxd4 spoils white's advantage.
    Of course the masters prefer 3 Nf3 > 3 e4 > 3 e3 > 3 Nc3 for good reason, and it is strange that lichess amateurs prefer exactly the reverse, but none of the moves is really bad.

Do not ...

Do you have the authority to give orders? By the way, about 3 weeks ago, we saw, "@kindaspongey, All your messages will now be blocked."

What happened with that? Anyway, my actual comment ("The line, 1 d4 d5 2 c4 dxc4 3 Nc3 a6 4 e4 b5 5 a4 b4, seems to rely on 2 nonoptimal white moves (3 Nc3 and 4 e4) in order to reach an ~0.2 advantage for Black") seems to have inspired tpr to do some "thinking".
