Can you play good when listening music?

@Kaan_Burak said ^

I always play with listening music, but I don't choose pianistic and calm musics, I really listen everything and my friends are surprised by this.
Let me get your answers!

Earlier, I also used to play chess while listening to music, but not anymore. Once, I was listening to one of my favourite songs during a horrible losing streak, and my brain started associating that song with all those losses. So I stopped - I’m not letting chess ruin my playlist.

my chess playlist consists of slipknot, breaking Benjamin, avenged sevenfold, ect. basically just a bunch of metal. not what you would expect during a chess game

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It depends on how I'm feeling. But if I listen to music, it's always classical/baroque on a low volume, never anything with lyrics. Usually Beethoven. Of course, this is only for online chess.

yes, but not in complicated positions

No.

Your friends are right. Chess requires (to play well) 100% concentration on the position.

Music makes my concentration, but I'm gonna respect your idea. Everyone's different.

I don't really choose classical music because it makes me bored, and I play my best when I'm energetic.

Good solution, I would do the same thing if I experienced the same, because my fun while listening music is more important then chess.

This is a stereotype which rather annoys me, to be honest. Classical music (I use the term in the wider sense, encompassing Classical, Baroque, and Romantic music) varies greatly from composer to composer, form to form, time period to time period, etc. A Schubert piano sonata is completely different from a Beethoven symphony. Some classical music is energetic, and some is calm. I find it rather ridiculous that people are so quick to classify classical music like this, when it varies so greatly.

I can't concentrate while listening to music, in everything. I just start daydreaming and lose focus. Also, music cuts my thinking off so I sometimes have to re-calculate the variation because I forget :(
I guess music with no lyrics is better but my brain can't cooperate when there's music, unless the music volume is turned down, down, down.

So I'm gonna be honest, I don't like classical music too much because the other singers (like Carpetman and Tame Impala in my playlist) makes me more energetic and enjoy.

Ok, you're saying "silence" makes you concentrate, not a bad choice.
