Chimp Days

There's a certain rhythm to chess life. I play about the same from day to day. Not too bad, even halfway decent, I'll avow!

But then comes a Chimp Day.

Every so often, I awake and find that all day long I might as well be a chimpanzee when I start playing chess. Today, for example, is such a Chimp Day. The percentage of unfavorable results has jumped way up.

I feel a weird urge to go buy a bunch of bananas and switch political parties.

But enough rambling: let me ask the question.

Does the reader experience such a sudden, temporary and really noticeable decline from time to time, as well?

If so, how do you handle it? Can it be overcome before the Chimp Period has run its course?

If so, how to explain the occurrence of such a period?

A number of possible explanations occurred to me. But no, I haven't had a stroke and I am not ingesting a substance, other than coffee, that might affect my cognitive performance.

Nope, I just woke up this morning with a sudden, newfound desire to swing from branches and seek out new friends named Tarzan.

Today, I've even found myself playing 1 e4 ?! I don't really have a good explanation for that.

I feel a weird urge to go ...

I just stop playing chess and focus on studying more and solving puzzles

Well. If you're online STOP. Do not play for the whole day. Revise your openings, solve puzzles, watch videos (well, hopefully don't become a couch potato, because too many videos lead to a information overload) and study chess. No playing for the whole day. You know it's the Chimp Day when you start losing 3 games in a row. Then STOP PLAYING CHESS and study

If you're OTB, can't do much. So just refresh your brain with whatever methods u use. Can't do anything if you're in a OTB. Then once you head back home ANALYZE YOUR GAMES

Chimp Day == Off day.

Go do something fun that is not chess, or read a novel. Anything that is NOT chess. Don't even study.

Hug a Hippo, perhaps?

:)

Atleast do a quick analysis of the games. Then next time you know your weaknesses
