I got to 1700 in 3 years too! from not knowing a drip of chess. Go for 2000 now :). Good luck!

a real-life example. A USCF master who gave a simul at the local Univ. He said "I quit jobs to play more chess." Brilliant and sweet man, looked likes Niles Cranes. He worked as a waiter and at a map shop because he did Chess instead of a career. Of my high horse, its the best hobby in the Universe, but don't over do it. Even Nepo seems kinda boring with Firouzja and Carlsen in the wings. How do you compete?
