What reason are you giving them to join the team?
What do you have to offer?
In the beginning you'll have to recruit in person, if you want organic growth that pretty much requires a reputation.
"I'll be running a weekly tournament for the team. If anybody has any other ideas for getting members or any good ideas for the team, I'd be happy to give them a try."
Is the purpose to get a team? Or to play a weekly tournament? What is your end goal?
Would it be just as good to join someone else's team or tournament?
If you can't find existing teams or tournaments that cover your needs/wants, the advertise what it is you want.
A specific setup? Time? Time zone? Level? Game type?
People on a team typically needs to have something in common - a reason to meet.
Start with people you play regularly. And try to play more people regularly. That grows the number of people who have same playing habits as you, and thus the potential number of future teammates.
In the future, I would like to organise a team battle with my team when I have enough members. How do you set up a team battle

Same as I, and I want more than 1000 members. I have only 14 in one team, as I own three teams, but other teams have far fewer members than 14
I also want my team to participate in Team Battle
Don't advertise in the forums.
If you made a team just because you wanted your own team, it would be hard to get members.
@geast18 The best way to attract players to your team is to be patient, to not advertise abd to make a strong team description, add a logo, and make your team participate in tournaments. It's also better to put the link of your team in your profile.
@sayedizhaan
Having 1,000 members does not guarantee a solid team. You can have 40-50 members but an active team. In my experience, in teams that have 300-3000 members, only like 20% of a team's members generally participate actively in its activities (tournaments, forum discussions, or team battles). So, the best is to have a strong line up of a dozen of active players than to seek to have a lot of members but with 10-20% of participation in tournaments.
Best of Luck!

An analogy to better grasp the problem: I've recently set up my house to receive friends and I'm finding it hard to get friends to come. What's the best way to get friends to come to a house?
Have you tried to invite your friends and family. Word of mouth goes a long way.
Wanting a team is not a need. Ideally, your team has to have something needed by others.
Then there is the responsibility of living up to your word and maintaining the team.
There are a lot of teams, but are all the so called leaders really leading the teams somewhere?
Most teams fail because the leader creates the team first and then wonders how to fill it.
What's the actual purpose of your team?
What problem does it solve?
Why should someone want to join?
Some might not join a team just because of a name choice....
Why was the team not called: "Geist" (German word for "spirit" or "mind"), wouldn't that of been more fitting for chess.
Think of it like a family reunion. Try to pick a place and date and see what your own family would say.
Some might say don't pick the place without discussing it with us or else you might find yourself alone over there.
