How Do You Spot Weak or Undefended Pieces?

Do you use any kind of checklist, like looking at undefended pieces first and then at pieces that depend on defense?

The chessmadra website mentioned earlier is a good place to start. Practice noticing undefended pieces and pawns. In an actual game you start to notice in your head when a person moves a piece to an undefended square, with enough practice. Especially on the 4th and 5th ranks.

Counting attackers vs. defenders will point them out.

Good players do this automatically.
Poor players think it's magic.
Bad players, not at all, and hope for the best in "Hope Chess".

looking at undefended pieces first

Yes!!!
Question 1. Can I take the piece that just moved? (hint - the figure glows green)

(Why your rating puzzle 2000 but rapid 1000?)
