How many accounts does LiChess have?

I'm not seeing it. Does it post it somewhere? I'm ranked around 143,800, but out of how many??

I found somewhere that my rapid ranking is based on the number of rapid games played in the last week, which is typically around 600,000. Does that sound about right?

Lichess has an active player base in the low single-digit millions, with weekly active users numbering around 1–2 million.
Lichess, the free and open-source online chess platform, does not publicly release the total number of registered accounts, but estimates of active users are available. As of early 2023, Lichess reported weekly active player counts of approximately 749,000 in blitz and 441,000 in rapid, suggesting that the total active base across all time controls and variants likely sits in the low single-digit millions (Chess Statistics 2026)

In terms of real-time activity, over 50,000 players are typically online at any given moment, with 24-hour peaks exceeding 110,000 concurrent users, reflecting the platform’s high engagement and global reach

.
It is important to note that the number of registered accounts is not equivalent to the number of unique players. Some users may have multiple accounts, while others may be inactive. Discussions on Lichess forums indicate that while most players maintain a single account, a small number of users have multiple accounts, which can skew averages if trying to estimate total unique players

.
For context, Lichess is one of the two dominant online chess platforms alongside Chess.com, which had 200 million registered users as of April 2025. Lichess serves as a popular alternative, particularly for open-source enthusiasts and those seeking an ad-free experience, and its active user base continues to grow steadily

.
In summary, while the exact total number of Lichess players is not publicly disclosed, the platform likely has several million active users worldwide, with hundreds of thousands playing daily.

https://lichess.org/@/BGW5422/perf/rapid (for you)
https://lichess.org/@/BLUNDERkingTHAgoat/perf/rapid (for me)

That brings you to this screen

those numbers are active last player in week till today. active player amount is bigger.

But how many account in OP request is probably useless number as account are rarely deleted i.e there is substantial amount accounts not having used for years. So rating distribution images are far better metric

Better still would taking from lichess database base on month file and extract number unique usernames. Problem is that such an file is massive and just unzipping it takes very long time
