Hi everyone,

I actually made this site a couple of years ago, but I've recently relaunched it and made some big improvements.

https://www.ccrlchallenger.com

It allows you to play against 152 different chess engines across 539 different versions in your browser for free. All engines are open source engines taken from the CCRL (Computer Chess Rating List). The engines range from 688 Elo to Stockfish 19 at 3793 Elo.

Recent updates

I've completely redesigned the site. It was originally very "web 1.0", but I've given it a proper redesign and hopefully made it much nicer to use.

I've updated the engine collection with the most recent engines from the CCRL, including the latest version of Stockfish, Stockfish 19. I'll be adding new engines once a month.

I've also removed the non-working engines from the site. I've tested the engines currently available and they should all work properly.

The engine server has been moved from my personal PC to a VPS, so it should be considerably more stable and reliable.

The site now uses Linux versions of engines when a Windows version isn't available, which allows me to support more engines.

And finally, I've moved the site from my personal website to a new domain: ccrlchallenger.com.

If you give it a try, I'd love to hear what you think, especially if you find any engines that don't work properly or have any suggestions for improvements.

Thanks! :)

Good job, very neat!

One obvious suggestion - please allow starting from an arbitrary position pasted via FEN.

Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestion and the feedback.

I've just added the option to choose a starting FEN in the new game screen. :)

Nice site for exploring various engines - thank you

One issue though, I tried pasting a chess960 position, all went well until I tried to castle :(

Thanks for the feedback.

It's only designed for normal chess, not 960, so unfortunately there are likely bugs with trying to play 960 with it. I may add 960 as a mode in the future.

I've just added support for Chess960. If you supply a 960 position and the engine supports Chess960, it'll use the engine's Chess960 mode. If the engine doesn't support 960, it'll just play the 960 position normally. I've also made it so there's a button on the new game page to generate a random 960 starting position. :)

Played a few 960 games, works perfectly now. Only the 960 notation for further lichess analysis needs fixing and we're done here ;)

TY

@JimmyRustles Correction, the standard chess notation passed to lichess seems to be broken too.

Thanks for letting me know. I've just fixed the moves list and the lichess analysis link, it should work for normall chess and 960 now.

Yeah, that part is working even better than originally. But alas the pesky 960 castling, read your PM's for a bug report.
