Idea for a Chess Variant: Blind 960 / double blind 960

I like to suggest a new (I hope?!) chess variant:

The idea is, that each player secretly chooses a position from all valid Chess 960 positions, and plays this position against the position his opponent chose.

It's a gamble, with a surprise: What did your opponent choose?

another variant could be "double blind": each opponent chooses a position, and it is decided by a dice roll which position each player gets.

is this old news, or would you like to play that?

cheers,
realPangu

Try playing placement chess on pychess.org.

You can also choose setup with your friend privately then start from certain position on lichess

Try playing [placement chess](https://www.pychess.org/variants/placement) on pychess.org. You can also choose setup with your friend privately then start from certain position on lichess

Huh. One of the officials of the Dice Chess organization shows up in a random forum marketing Dice Chess! And this is the only thing he does in forums... a little sad, to be honest.

sadly, you can only castle if the king and rook is placed originally, not like in chess960, also its a bit annoying that they restrict the bishops to colors, if you want to have same colored bishops it would make the game more interesting and possibly give you a disadvantage

One i like to play with my friends is kinda like this, you pick your pieces one at a time, but your opponent also gets that same piece on the same square
