Is it good to NOT use common openings?

Hello, It's me, Melih

I see people getting same ideas in the forum like "How to improve" (I am not saying its bad) but this is very different:
You saw the question, If you didnt understand, I meant trying very different Openings, what is different Opening you might say?
Its Openings that is insanely rare and very rarely used, I created mine: 1.Nf3 1.c5 2.g3 2.b5! very unexpected Openings, I beated 1275 UKD player with this by -1.0 (that counts as a win in our chess club)
Do you even know where 1200elos get most of their strengths? Its Opening Knowledge, Use it often to win more easily (study them before playing too!)

BUT I am asking you: Is it a good idea and which elo strengths should do this/shouldnt do this?

Tell me in the comments below

You can play uncommon openings, but don't play bad openings, make sure you play an 'actual' opening at the end of the day instead of purposeless modes. Even the hippo has plans, the stonewall has a point, there is a very specific goal you are trying to achieve in the grunfeld, but if you just play a3, b4 - those moves are bad, and even besides being bad there's not much of a point in making random moves.

what about nice openings like 1. Nf3 c5 2.g3 b5 (+0.4 from Stockfish 14) or like 1.e4 e5 2.b3, Yes you can play uncommon openings but not play random moves, I dont think any 1200elo would do, even Fischer played Openings Nobody expected, and I tried to do the same to increase attacking chances but I am asking everyone's opinion on this (1.e4 e5 2.b3, Charles Opening, definitely not Henry Stickmin reference) what If I refuse to play same thing and play very unexpected Openings?

b5 is just bad. Grunfeld or dutch is uncommon enough for your level.

The point of an opening is to provide you a setup or set position with a few plans that you can repetitvely use. If you play something like c5 , b5 what's your plans? what do you play next? if you can make a plan around the mid games that opening leads to, then sure, otherwise - you're not even really playing an opening.

fischer INVENTED openings, it's because he's so good that he can reinvent the wheel.
