I often see people in Racing Kings in positions that I am almost never in I would like to hear peoples opinions about whether this is because I stick to several winning game methods and study the best and quickest ways to win (I play a lot of hyper) or whether it is because they are just playing bizzare games that don’t really make any sense? anyways any thoughts would be welcome!

There Are so many viable openings and already After Move 5 you can have so many different positions where it still is around equal. I myself would consider myself as a quite good and experienced player with 1. Nxc2 and still yesterday or so I played some Matches with @panagiskosmatos and got some opening variations i havent Seen in my life. Small switchups can lead to so many different positions so no, you arent Bad.

Thx I mean obviously I knew I wasn’t terrible ( I’m a 2100 and top 75 but just wondered how other people get where they are in some games

And there are so many openings that is almost impossible to know them all. You can ask the theory monster @royalmaniac about strange openings or even the usual ones. He is the one who knows them all including different lines that could be even worse than the one who chooses them but being so strange and unexpected that could lead to a draw or a win.

Thx I mean nobody can know all of the possibilities but kind of crazy how much Roy has studied and even crazier that people can beat him

@RK74 give us some games or specific opening lines that you've been wondering about! Without more information it could be anything from elite level theory to a random blunderfest. It's easier to explain when we've got a few examples.
What I will say is that hyperbullet players often have specific opening repertoires, which are not necessarily objectively correct or translate well to blitz time controls. Similarly, there are many nuanced / complicated openings that people may use in blitz that would be difficult, or risky, to play in hyperbullet.
If you truly wanna get better at RK, play more blitz :-)

Blitz is seriously underrated for getting better. It's so much better than hyper. I get how hyper can sometimes be more satisfying, but in the long run you think too shallow, and that influences your thinking. Plus it also gets you used to things, making you play them automatically later on, even if it's wrong. Rapid would be even better, but I understand why people wouldn't want to play Rapid RK

I would totally agree with Myst about the subject of speed however playing hyper has also helped me infinitely with my ability to think quickly but logically while playing very quickly (hence my ability to zerk in RK hyper against people who are rated even 2000+ or minus and win
As for @RoyalManiac ’s question I don’t think there is any specific example because as you pointed out there are a ridiculous amount of small differences but they usually are a result of some sort of unbreakable trap using bishops or knights that can only be escaped through significant loss of material and instead of trying to escape logically the person in question just tries a bunch of ridiculous moves that don’t get either side closer to winning of losing

My question is how would a bunch of crazy, stupid moves not get either side closer to winning or losing? A good RK player can easily capitalize on uncoordinated and unstrategic moves and turn it into a winning position.

Because the crazy stupid moves aren’t actually making either side closer to winning they just prolong the game
And most of these games are not between good RK players in my experience they are usually between people who are <1900
