I prefer the 4. Nd3 line. Less theory, will catch black off sometimes. Carlsen used it in his 2018 WCC match vs. Caruana.
- e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Nxe5 d6 4. Nd3 Nxe4 5. Qe2 Qe7 6. Nf4 - I like the knight repositioned on f4.
The Petrov is heavily-laden in theory being such an old opening.

1 e4 e5 2 Nc3!
No Petroff, no Ruy Lopez, the pawn e4 is protected and Nc3 hinders the d5 break.
2... Nf6 3 Bc4! Study the games of the wise Uzbeks and see how they've turned this ancient line into an effective weapon.

* That is the line Carlsen almost lost his World Championship title with: 68...Bh4 wins for black.

Being in the same rating range and saying that is crazy. You just cannot assume somebody’s training habits. What even is the thought process? Ah, yes, he is asking for opening recommendations, therefore he must be lazy!

I never called him or her lazy, I meant to 'stop daydreaming and train' without being harsh, You can study Openings from
Chessly.org (1 week-trial free) Made by Levy Rozman, has 70+ courses and 120 dollars a year (full-price)
Chessable.com (free) with many and many approved courses by Chessable teams
Chess.com Lessons, you should listen to them and you'll grow time by time
Stick to Opening Principles and learn why some 'natural' moves are bad (Lichess analysis-board study with engine)
Lichess.org studies
Chess youtubers (Yellow Rook, Chessscape, Chess Vibes, GothamChess)
Never study Traps or Gambits unless theyre proven sound by theories or engines
OpeningTrainer.com, 7-15 moves and it will show the evaluation and have a button to lichess analysis to show why its a mistake or not
But still, I recommend studying Endgames first, but study Openings enough to defend yourself well, learn new ideas, try to attack, Play with real peoples, thats all
My 1800-FIDE coach says 'stop memorizing computer moves and learn from your mistakes' I know Openings are fun to study but learning from your mistakes and studying Endgames are usually better, Dont misunderstand, I never said 'You cant train yourself on Openings' or 'Youre so lazy' I am just trying to stop him from daydreaming and work for once, Most players never reach their goal cuz they celebrate it to much.
My lines arent crazy, I just want them to train to avoid same problems i have
