Marathon!

Why is it called Marathon? Do you have to be home for a long time to play through 50+ games?
I like the time control of 3 or 3+2 so I would like to play some games too but I can't be at home for too long in daytime.
How does it work? Do you choose when to play the games or they schedule the games for you?

what does "zerking opps" mean? I can only think of zerg rush operations.

zerking, or berserking means you get half the time, no increment and extra point if you win

It is called a marathon because it lasts 24 hours. Relatively few participants play more than 10 hours, though. This is only useful if you want to get a trophy.

It is an arena tournament[1], and while this format has many flaws the one thing that is good about it is that you can join at any time and pause whenever you have enough and need a break. So if you want to play 50+ games you can distribute them over the day, but it is also fine to just play a handful of games.
