Only began playing online chess less than 2 months ago. Just lost my second game because of a mouse slip, hanging a Rook in a previously won endgame. Had a couple others that were inconsequential. One time analyzing later I found I had accidentally made the engine approved move. Anyhow I have just enabled Move Confirmation mode. Hopefully it isn't overly annoying and solves the mouse slip issues.
Anyone presently using Move Confirmation, or did use it and then turn it back off, have feedback?

Just to mention it, a trivial solution to mouse slips is also keyboard input of chess moves instead of mouse input.
With myself being a person that likes high code and command lines in IT, I like the mouse better in online chess as it is a visual interface for a purely visual thing.

I used to use it a lot before, then I stopped recently because I play way more blitz now, and in 5+3 it's kinda annoying, besides I don't play blitz too seriously so I'm pretty much fine with only confirming moves for rapid.

For Rapid and slower, it's a must-have. Without it I would already have made countless blunders (more).

So I have played several games with Move Confirmation enabled and I have a minor issue. I sometimes forget to confirm and my clock runs downs. Saw in another thread someone complaining people can use Move Confirmation as a way to visually preview moves and looking for a solution. I mentioned I think we can solve both his issue and mine by having the software auto-accept the "mouse slip" after 3 seconds. Less time to analyze and I lose less time.
I have been practicing in Casual Unrated games so no big deal. Unfortunately I don't really care about the Casual games and I make a lot of speculative moves without thinking them through. I hope this doesn't turn in to a bad habit. Hoping I get used to the MC mode soon and can get back to Rated games.

You also could try another input device, like a trackball or a touchpad.

My technique is to drag the piece with a curve, so it never passes by a legal move square. For instance, to move the queen from d1 to d8, I do a semi-circle.
But I only play rapid and classic. No time for that in blitz and Bullet I guess.
Also, about take backs. you can tell when it's a mouse slip. The piece stops on the way to the obvious move. So I ALWAYS accept take back for mouse slip. I don't want to win a game thanks to a technical issue. But when I do it (I often forget my curve technique), and I ask for a take back (in less than a second) typing (mouse slip) in the chat, a LOT of players refuse. I just don't understand. I'm 1750 btw. I guess the behaviour depends a lot on the level. (The pattern I see it, the higher you are, the best ethics players have).
But I don't know, maybe I'm wrong? What do you think? Some people could say "it's part of the skills, you need to pay attention"?
For me, it's really annoying. Especially if the game is super interresting. But maybe off topic, I'll see if there's a take back topic.
