Need advice from stronger players

guys, i’ve been playing bullet for 2 years with pretty much no actual training, just playing games. no opening theory or memorizing lines, and somehow got to 2500 bullet

hitting a wall

but now i feel like i’ve hit a wall and can’t really improve anymore. my rapid and even blitz are awful does anyone have any tips on how i should train?

how do you actually learn openings?

i started playing a pretty unconventional opening from the beginning, so i never really learned proper opening principles, and now trying to learn theory feels so hard

i’m actually cursed lmao

"i’ve hit a wall"

  • 2466 bullet is impressive. However, bullet is not real chess in the sense that the alternative winning condition by flagging detracts from the normal wining condition to checkmate. 2031 blitz is not bad.
    Maybe play some 15+10 rapid.

" a pretty unconventional opening"

  • unconventional is OK, as long as it is sound.

"proper opening principles"

  • That is easy.

"learn theory "

  • Not necessary.

You've invested a lot of time and effort into bullet and trained yourself to exploit its unique features. No surprise that you hit a wall in slower time controls where chess ability becomes more important.

... how do you actually learn openings? ...

Maybe, you can find something useful at https://lichess.org/forum/general-chess-discussion/learning-the-openning or https://lichess.org/forum/general-chess-discussion/what-books-to-read-for-improvement-rating-1400-1500-fide.
"... I am not a big fan of weaker players memorizing lots of opening lines they will never play. However, it is quite a different issue to spend a small amount of time learning how to play your openings a little better each time they occur. A long journey begins with a single step. ..." - NM Dan Heisman (2005)

  • Not necessary.

I believe it is cuz on this account, I’m like 100 points lower than my main account in bullet (Ik you’ll say that it’s not chess, but still...)and I’m 200 points lower in rapid while I’m playing everything but theory.

@tpr

yeah that makes sense.......... i guess i got too used to relying on speed and instincts instead of actually thinking things through ._.
