Title: I made a free opening trainer: learn lines by playing them, with arrows that fade as you learn
Openings always bored me, and courses didn't stick, so I built something different. It's free, needs no account, and runs in your browser with Stockfish. Vibe coded today.
Practice: 47 openings (including 7 English variations and 10 trick openings like the Fried Liver and Stafford), about 260 lines. Blue arrows guide you at first, then disappear from the end of the line as you learn it. Play a move from memory and you score a point. A wrong move shows the right one and restarts the line.
Play as Black: the engine picks a White opening, the page names it as it appears, and shows your book replies as numbered arrows.
Move colors (optional): Stockfish scores every move, and your pieces are coloured by how good their best move is.

Let me know what you think. Did I accidentally recapitulate your favorite opening trainer?
Mike

Would be nice if you could give a little animation to the moves so one can follow better what's happening.

Ok I learnt a few lines. Now how do I turn off the arrows and train those lines?

If you want to train them, you could use them in games, unrated if you like.

How cool is that! Thank you I'm exploring it. And I've build my own opening trainer as an alternative to chessbook and noctie.ai where you can build your own repertoire using the lichess database, visualise it as a tree, train it with spaced repetition, and practice it against maia3 ate every elo level. Free and opennsource.

I love how AI helps us create unique apps for ourselves that do exactly what we want. Let us learn from each other!

What I love most about your app is showing the colors and then eval when selecting a piece. Thanks for making this.
