Hi everyone, I'd like to ask about the Nc6 defense.
I've been playing it as Black against 1.e4 for a couple of months because I wanted something that would take me out of my comfort zone.
I've been playing it at club level with a strategy similar to the King's Indian, but without much success (48% win rate).
So my question is: is it OK to think of it as a flexible King's Indian, where I first restrain White's center and then attack it? Or am I missing something strategically? Should I focus more on trading off White's most active pieces before attacking the center?
Any advice on the strategy of this opening would be appreciated.

the best advice I can give to you is switch to more standard openings
nimzowitch is a very advanced opening at this level you should not play it unless you understand pawn structures well
nimzowitch is not at all related to kings indian
it is related to French
the opening ideas are related to French and yes if you just want to play it then you should focus on trading more pieces as I said you must have very advanced knowledge of pawn structures to play nimzowitch properly
my best advice to you is to shift to something like 1.e5 or 1.c5

Thank you for your answer.
Dont worry. I know how hard is Nimzowitch defense. But I like more open minded openings like Reti, Nimzo-Larsen, Pirc, Modern and QGA etc.
I used to play so much caro kann, french even ruy lopez. But nothing let me dictate the flow of game. It always and as me trying to consolidate and draw, with my oponent blitzing every streamer/chessable lines. Thats why i ended with reti/nimzolarsen as white and QGA wirh NC6 as white.
So if i want to play the game and not stuck in some prep from highschooler, how can I aechive it?
Btw i realy thanks for the advice :-).

I have played the Nimzowitsch opening but I wouldn't say it has much in common with the King's Indian. If you follow up with e6, d5 you reach French structures with the N on c6. That makes the c5 break impossible and black aims for f6, e5 instead.
Many people will avoid the Nimzowitsch by 2 Nf3. You can transpose to open games by 2... e5 or reach a Pirc setup by 2... d6 3 d4 Nf6 4 Nc3 g6 l.

I would expect most players would play 2.d4 then my reply would be 2...d5. Then most likely 3.e5 Bf5, followed by ...e6. It looks solid, Black's development is ok. But maybe not a lot of chances for active play. Black would need to attack White's pawn center with ...c5 or ...f6 to get active play but that might take time, I''m not even sure it can be done, as I haven't studied this opening.

Nimzovich Defense is solid and less known.
After 1 e4 Nc6 2 d4 d5 3 e5 Bf5 6 c3 e6 black enjoys a lead in development.
Most players will avoid it with 2 Nf3, when 2...e5 transposes to 1...e5, 2...d5 transposes to 1...d5, 2...d6 transposes to 1...d6.

1 e4 Nf6 2 Nf3
If you want a sharp variation there is 2... Nf6 3 e5 Ng4 4 d4 d6.
Not sharp enough? In blitz Magnus plays 2... f5.

Yes, 2...Nf6 or 2...f5 are sharp, but bad.

So nobody can suggest some better alternatives for 2 . Nc6.
I dont mind know theritory, but hate when i get possitions like exchange varietions in french and caro kann.
The Nc6 have the Reti/QGA element, it is suprising, i can dictate flow of a game and i dont need to know tun of theory.
