Which Is The Toughest Opening To Play AGAINST?

Sicilian and Caro-Kann.

About the Stafford Gambit...

  1. Play it with Stockfish here on the analysis board - it's really weak.

Btw, the most recent theory against the Petrov is:
e4 e5, Nf3 Nf6, d4 - so there's no Stafford. (And this is also what Fischer played against some amateur; see chessgames.com)

As White

e4 e5

The Queen's Gambit Declined

It is hard for White to get an advantage if Black knows their stuff

As Black

  1. Nf3

White has given you very little information and has not yet shown their hand. This is especially annoying if White knows several openings and often switches between them.

To me the hardest opening to play against is the kings indian because of its plentiful amount of theory and lines players can play from both sides.

probably the kings indian defense. its all defensive until the kingside attack, so you have to be ready for it and then defend against it, and then still have to deal with the defense after.

As a 1.d4 player, I hate the Englund

"As a 1.d4 player, I hate the Englund"

  • If all opponents would play the Englund Gambit, then I would always open 1 d4.
