whenever i face french with white im just bamboozled because in exchange u cant play for a win basically in advanced i always make mistakes and classical or tarrasch needs prep One line with 2. Nf3 works online but otb?? Pls tell me a counter
Retreat the pawn from e4 back to e3 and see how the opponent reacts to their own opening. :-)

"their greater experience in the Exchange is still enough to outweigh White's extra tempo" * Not really. White may play the same setup against the Petrov. I guess white sees French + Petrov more than black sees the Exchange Variation.
"4. Nf3 is a mediocre move." * You should tell Gukesh

And you should also tell Ding Liren not to play 4...Nf6.
"Even in symmetrical positions, Black tends to score better." * That is impossible: the tempo is a clear but small advantage. If it were not, then white should lose a tempo with say a3, or Be2 and Bd3.
"The King's Indian Defense" * Yes is not considered sound now after Kramnik beat Kasparov with it. However, in the King's Indian Attack white has an extra tempo. Moreover 'I thought it led to a favorable variation of the King's Indian reversed, particularly after Black has committed himself with ...e6.' - Fischer. In other words e3 is not a way to refute the King's Indian Defense.
"1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 h6." * Nowadays they are back to Steinitz' 4 e5.
"Openings evolve over time" * Like fashion.

The King's Indian Attack is a good way. It does double duty against the Sicilian: 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d3.
Also Bronstein played it frequently

I mean, what helpful response do you expect to the blunt question "why does french exist"
if you start with "exchange I can't play for a win", that's just straight false (for beginner level it definitely is)
also why is your account banned

What bot? This site or elsewhere? If you mean Maia5, then I don't see any games of yours against it.

The French Defense is a good defense for Black; it's useful, balanced, and stable. It's very entertaining to play, and you can play a very interesting game against it. My recommendation against it is to play: e4, e6, d4, d5, exd5, exd5 and then Qf3!? (only for players rated 2000 Elo or below). If they have a higher rating, it's better to just play the advance with a3.
