In my city we just talk via mobile phone with the organizers and send money digitaly/in person. Or some may even show up and register in the playing hall if it's a small tournament. I think the first rated tournament i played in was a bit messy. But it probably organized by less experienced peoople

Yeah that makes sense. It seems like a lot of smaller events work fine with manual methods right up until the volume or last minute changes start stacking up.
Out of curiosity, what tends to be the biggest headache in practice:
matching payments,
late entries,
player communication,
or keeping the list clean before pairings?
